Our Herd
BENTLEY

Breed: Appendix Quarter Horse
Age: 10
Color: Dark Bay
Sex: Gelding

Height: 15.3 hands
Previous Experience: unknown, came to us shortly after being rescued in West Texas
Joined Triple H: January 2018

Bentley has worked hard learning what he needs to do for his job as a therapy horse. While we don’t know much about him before joining us, we know a couple things now. He is a really stubborn boy that enjoys spending his leisure time running around playing with his pasture buddies. While he is high energy during fun time, he is LAZY when it’s time to work. And most important, his healing energy is as beautiful as he is.

BERRY

Breed: Quarter Horse
Age: 27
Color: Strawberry Roan
Sex: Mare
Height: 15 hands
Previous Experience: Had not been ridden in years
Joined Triple H: September 2014

Trekking the 3 miles from her home at least 4 times, Berry finally convinced Triple H that she WANTED to be a therapy horse. She chose this life, and has taken to the job with determination. Berry can be a bit of a bully to her pasture mates at times, but does well to keep everyone, equine and human, on their toes. While small in stature, Berry is large in spirit.

CISCO

Breed: Paint
Age: 20
Sex: Gelding
Height: 15.1

Previous Experience: Trail Rides all over Bandera County, Triple H mounted Scavenger hunt and play day three years.
Joined Triple H- September 2019

Cisco enjoyed doing our Scavenger Hunt trail rides and play days. When his owner needed to find him a new job, he decided to come to Triple H to see if he had the "stuff" to be a therapy horse. Cisco came in and did well joining the boy's herd. Although he would much prefer to be able to see "the ladies" out at pasture, he is a respectful and mindful gentleman.

He has learned how to do a few things differently to adjust to the job of "therapy" and has become a steady solid man for the riders. His calm and steady personality has helped him continue to settle in to the herd and the job.

FREEDOM

Breed: Quarter Horse
Age: 14 yrs
Color: Sorrel Paint
Sex: Mare
Height: 15.2 hands
Previous Experience: A barrel horse prospect whose owner ran out of time for her.
Joined Triple H: January 2020

She is one of our newest additions but is a natural at her new job. She was a former barrel prospect that seems to be settling into her new life and role. She can be a bit of a bully with the other mares in the pasture but is a very sweet girl working with her people.
Picture

GEMA

Breed: Quarter Horse
Age: 21
Color: Gray
Sex: Mare
Height: 15.2 hands
Previous Experience: Team Roper and Barrel Racer
Joined Triple H: December 2012

Gema came from a western background doing barrel racing and ranch work, but wasn’t a big fan of either. She has transitioned well into her job as a therapy horse and although doesn’t show a lot of emotion, she does well to let people know what she is thinking. She is a strong quiet mare who has a very patient and forgiving attitude.
Picture

HANK

Breed: Standard Bred
Age: 21
Color: Bay
Sex: Gelding
Height: 16.2 hands
Previous Experience: Amish cart horse, he came to us from a Rescue
Joined Triple H: January 2018

Hank is a big hearted bay. Rescued from being an Amish cart horse, he has transitioned  into the job of therapy horse with ease. Patient and tolerant, Hank can be found leading his "boys” through anything.
Picture

HANNAH

Breed: Shire
Age: 15

Color: Bay
Sex: Mare
Height: 18.2 hands
Previous Experience: A therapy horse in Missouri. Hannah came to us when her human mom, who has a progressive disease, could no longer care for this gorgeous horse.
Joined Triple H: eptember 2013

Before starting her career as a therapy horse, Hannah was her owner’s primary transportation, pulling her wagon to town for errands. Hannah thinks of herself as a giant lap horse; if it were possible for her to sit in your lap that’s where she would be. Her favorite treat is peppermints and she will knock on her door loudly to let you know she needs them.

JACKSON

Breed: Paint
Age: 10
Color: Paint
Sex: Gelding
Height: 15 hands
Previous Experience: Unknown, he came to us “green broke” from a Rescue
Joined Triple H: January 2018

Jackson came to us from a Rescue with very little training. He was timid to start with and reluctant to do things like pick up his feet, but quickly settled into his new life and role as a therapy horse. He’s still working on building confidence, but has blossomed into a rambunctious, playful, sweet boy. He really enjoys playing with his pasture buddies and rolling around in the mud.

KHECK

Breed: Arabian
Age: 25
Color: Bay
Sex: Gelding
Height: 15 hands
Previous Experience: Dressage
Joined Triple H: August 2009

He is the “go to” guy for especially anxious riders and for those with particularly difficult challenges. His calm demeanor and extreme patience proves to be just what is needed for some of our most fragile riders.  Known as the “hero” of the barn, he once saved his rider, and volunteers from being seriously injured when a tree limb unexpectedly fell during a trail ride. He has a great personality and just loves to be “one of the guys."

KODA

Breed: Appaloosa
Age: 21
Color: Red roan appaloosa
Sex: Gelding
Height: 15.2 hands
Previous experience: Kids trail horse
Joined Triple H: March 2019

Originally known as Mr. Apples, Koda came to Triple H after his owners could no longer provide the care and attention he deserves. This sweet boy is AMAZING and has quickly become one of our “go to” therapists. He is a total ROCK STAR!!

RUSTY

Breed: Clydesdale
Age: 21

Color: Bay
Sex: Mare
Height: 17.2 hands
Previous Experience: pulling a cart, came to us from a Clydesdale Rescue
Joined Triple H: September 2001

Rusty's previous work was pulling a cart—not the Budweiser red cart—but she is just as smart and beautiful as those magnificent Clydesdales. A gentle giant, Rusty has a big heart and loves to teach the little ones what they CAN DO.
Picture

STAN LEE

Breed: Standard Bred
Age: 20

Color: Bay
Height: 16.1 hands
Previous Experience: Amish cart horse and racer, came to us from a Rescue
Joined Triple H: February 2018

As an Amish cart horse, Stan Lee did not know what treats were and wasn’t sure how he felt about having people love on him. However it didn’t take long for him to discover how much he loved both. He loves “his people” so much that he gets depressed and grumpy when classes are cancelled. Before being an Amish cart horse, he was a pacer. That’s a race horse pulling a cart at a super fast trot, and he has not lost that competitive instinct. He is naturally a very chill horse, happy to hang out at the back of the trail ride, but if someone challenges him, you better hang on because he can MOVE.

He will be your best friend if you share your Oatmeal cream pie with him.

Joined Triple H: February 2020

She is the second youngest horse in the barn and usually acts like one of the oldest. She is typically wise beyond her years, however at times shows the energy and attitude of a teenager. She is quickly settling into her new role as a therapist, leaving behind her days of chasing cows to help the clients that need her most.
